About HopWild
Welcome to Hopwild – A blog that helps beer enthusiasts learn about beer and brewing![]()
My name is Jimmy and I’m a home brewer and all-around beer geek. I’m about to turn 30 and I live in North Carolina, which is quickly becoming a hotbed of brewing activity. I currently work full time for a major technology company – but spend the remaining waking hours on subjects like brewing, travel and a few of my favorite TV shows.
Brewing
On a whim in 2005, my girlfriend and I bought our first home brewing kit. It was a lazy Saturday and we were looking for something to do. She brought up the idea that we should have a go at making our own beer.
A trip to the home brew store – and $85 later- we were in business.
We brewed pretty casually at first until I started to get more serious about it – around the end of 2006. Eventually brewing took over as my primary hobby.
Hopwild the Blog
From that first batch, I began reading various Internet websites and forums on brewing. I also picked up a shelf full of books and magazines. Making the leap from reading about brewing to trying my hand at writing about it was sort of the next logical step. And so – this site was created.
At first – much like brewing – it was a casual project. But at he end of 2008 I decided to put a more concerted effort into updating it regularly and – perhaps more importantly – improving the quality of the writing.
Here you can read about a variety of topics:
- mainly Home Brewing Tips and Tricks
- some Home Brewing How-To’s
- and Experiments
- also some Beer Recipes
- the occasional Musings on Beer
- and Book Reviews
